Let’s Get Started
It’s a super important question. My experience ranges from smaller projects and one-time requests, to working with growing startups and larger companies. In terms of background and years of experience, I actually studied Environmental Studies, Marketing, and Consumer Psychology; my knowledge of web development, design, digital marketing, and growth hacking came mostly from watching tutorial and learning from talented individuals in the space. Additionally, I had started my first company my Sophomore year of college, which made me put what I learned as theory into real-life practice. I started two more companies after that. It was all incredibly helpful. So long answer short, I have about 5 years of experience and like to consider myself an entrepreneur.
I’ve freelanced and worked as a consultant for everything from small, handmade beauty brands and individually run business, to large online blogs/magazines and e-commerce platforms. I’ve also helped people get their ideas–and I literally mean just a seed of an idea–into something visible and tangible. I have rejected projects that I thought were inappropriate, but for the most part enjoy work-shopping and ideating with clients.
Specifically, I would say most of the projects I’ve taken on have been in the web design and growth marketing spaces. In terms of the former, it means building a stellar website and designing it to a ‘T’; and in terms of the latter, it means generating new ways to increase sales, leads, purchases and overall conversions through inspecting data and creating/optimizing digital campaigns (SEO, social and search).
Yes! Absolutely! I almost always begin a new project like this. It’s incredibly important to make crystal clear what the goal is and what you, as a client, want to see happen for your idea or project. I’ve often hear from friends that they feel this part is skipped with other freelancers and that the project takes longer and suffers because of it, so I make a concerted effort to develop a clear plan.

Yes, definitely. Sometimes a client just wants another pair of eyes and ears. You may already have something in mind and know how you’re going to get there, but want someone with experience to make sure the process stays on-track and doesn’t fall whim to early mistakes.

The golden question! (literally) My rates depend largely on YOUR BUDGET. I’ve been in that spot where I really want and need something to happen, but simply don’t have the budget for it. I know the feeling, and it sucks. Whenever there’s a strict budget, I will try to stay within that limit. Of course, I won’t work for free. I have to live as well.
Specifically, in terms of price break down, I begin by sending over a quote, labeled with specific items and their associated cost, which adds up to the full price. Since most of the time clients come back to continue working with me, I have a hourly breakdown for additional or smaller requests that don’t warrant a whole other project roadmap and quote outline. Generally, this is how the hourly rates are broken down, but keep in mind that formal projects get a deal, while one-time, single requests tend to follow this breakdown:

Existing, On-Site Optimization: $65/hour
Graphic & Branded Design: $55/hour
App/Mobile Development: $95/hour
Growth & Digital Marketing: $80/hour
Data Presentation, Management & Organization: $80/hour
